What Are Your Core Values

Your core values are the principles that guide your choices when nothing else is telling you what to do. They're what you protect when pressure comes. They're what you regret abandoning. They're not aspirations you wish you had or things you think you should care about. They're what you actually organize your life around, whether you've named them or not.

Most people can point to one or two. The person who always shows up for their kids, even when work gets demanding. The one who won't compromise on honesty, even when a lie would be easier. The person who needs to feel like their work matters, not just pays. You probably know this about yourself already, at least partly. The harder part is understanding the complete picture, and seeing how your values actually conflict with each other when life requires trade-offs.

Why You Can't Just Make a List

You could sit down right now and write down what you think your values are. You'd probably get something reasonable. But there's a gap between the values you think you have and the values that actually run your decisions. You say you value balance, but you take the promotion that kills it. You say you value integrity, but you stay quiet when speaking up would cost you. You say you value independence, but you keep giving in to expectations.

This isn't hypocrisy. It's the reality of living with competing priorities. When you examine your choices in the places where you've actually sacrificed something, you see what you genuinely prioritize. A list you write in a reflective moment doesn't capture that. An assessment that asks you to compare real scenarios, where something real is at stake, shows you something different. It forces you to choose. It reveals what you actually value when you can't have it all.

What a Structured Assessment Does

A real assessment doesn't ask you what you think you value. It puts you in situations where you have to choose between two things you care about and pays attention to the pattern. You pick a job with higher purpose over one with better pay. You choose family time over career momentum. You pick security over adventure. Over dozens of these moments, a structure emerges. The things you choose reveal what matters most when the stakes are real.

This kind of assessment also does something a quiz can't: it legitimizes the tensions. You're not broken because you value both security and growth. You're not a hypocrite because family and ambition pull at you. The assessment shows you how these values live together and where they create friction in your actual life. That friction is where the real work is. Once you see it clearly, you can make decisions about it. You can stop pretending you value something you don't. You can stop acting surprised when your choices reflect what you actually care about, not what you think you should care about.

What an Assessment Can't Do

An assessment shows you what you value. It doesn't tell you whether that's good or right or whether your values will lead to the life you want. It doesn't change your circumstances. It doesn't solve the problem of having values that conflict with the role you're in or the commitments you've made. It doesn't make hard choices easier. What it does is stop you from lying to yourself about what matters to you, and that honesty is the place where change actually starts.

The My Values assessment takes you through scenarios where real trade-offs exist and builds a profile of what you actually choose. It's direct. It takes about 20 minutes. After that, you have something concrete to work with, not a vague sense that something is off.
